Day by Day

Just-Take-It-Day-By-Day1st Chronicles 23:1 “When David was old and full of days…”

This first phrase in today’s reading got me to thinkin’…  we become old when our lives become “full of days”.

The perspective of Scripture is not so much that God takes care of our lives, but that he takes care of our days, one by one. We do not need faith to trust God for our life; we need faith to trust God for this day!

  • “Give us each day our daily bread” (Luke 11)
  • Manna was to be gathered “each morning“; only enough for the day; it was not to be kept overnight. (Exodus 16)
  • “Each day has enough trouble of its own”. Do not worry about tomorrow; trust God for today. (Matthew 6)

Day by day and with each passing moment, strength I find to meet my trials here.

He whose heart is kind beyond all measure, gives unto each day what he deems best.

Every day the Lord himself is near me, with a special mercy for each hour.

As thy days, thy strength shall be in measure, this the pledge to me he made.

One by one, the days, the moments fleeting, till with Christ the Lord I stand.

This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it! (Psalm 118)
